The Loom Weaver
This piece highlights the two vital industries of the Hebrides: Harris Tweed and the Herring Girls.
I used mixed media, combining newspaper, maps, photography, and real tweed. The original was sold, but I am excited to release this print.
As the weaver, I wanted to capture the essence of life through Gaelic song and old photographs. The images are presented alongside a watercolour map of the Isle of Lewis and Harris, featuring the sparkling gold beaches.
suggestion
Add an extra touch of authenticity by gluing a small piece of real tweed onto the weaver’s loom, just like in the original artwork. This simple addition brings added depth and texture, making the piece truly unique.
Gold foil
The beaches give a striking shine, even at night.

Experimenting with collage,
part of our past
Behind the weaver, the waulking song 'Gaol Ise Gaol' has been cut out, along with historical photos from the Tweed industry.
Waulking songs were traditionally sung in the Gaelic language by women while waulking cloth.
hebridean dream
As the light catches the print, the beaches shimmer and shine, capturing the magic and beauty of those Hebridean beaches.
My aim was to capture the beauty and dream like feeling of the Hebridean beaches.
